Chess Explained: The Meran Semi-Slav

Chess Explained: The Meran Semi-Slav
Yapım: Gambit Publications; 1st edition ISBN : 1904600816 112 Sayfa PDF 44.8MB

Chess Explained books provide an understanding of an opening and the middlegames to which it leads, enabling you to find the right moves and plans in your own games. It is as if you were sitting at the board with a chess coach answering your questions about the plans for both sides, the ideas behind particular moves, and what specific knowledge you need to have.

Belying its solid classical appearance, the Semi-Slav is one of Black's most aggressive responses when White opens with the queen's pawn. The Meran is its traditional main line, and often leads to chaotic positions of immense strategic and tactical richness. This is territory where the player who is better prepared and has a superior 'feel' for the nuances will typically emerge victorious, even against a stronger opponent. Vera draws upon decades of personal experience to explain the underlying logic of the Meran and related lines, and to pick out the key features of positions that to the untrained eye might appear random and unfathomable. In addition to discussing all major lines after 5 e3, Vera also covers many subtle issues of move-order, which are of great importance when trying to steer the game into the desired channels.

Chess Strategy in Action

Chess Strategy in Action
Gambit Publications | 2003 | ISBN: 1901983692 | 287 Sayfa | PDF | 23 MB
John Watson fleshes out the theory presented to enormous acclaim in Secrets of Modern Chess Strategy and extends it into new areas. He illustrates the modern practice of chess with many examples from imaginative players such as Kasparov, Kramnik, Anand, Ivanchuk and tempestuous innovators such as Shirov and Morozevich.
In Secrets of Modern Chess Strategy, Watson broke new ground by describing the developments in chess strategy since the time of Nimzowitsch. He explained how modern players are more willing than their predecessors to favour dynamic considerations over static ones, and how they have increasingly transcended the limiting 'rules' which influenced play in earlier times. The dominant results of Garry Kasparov and the rise of a new generation of supergrandmasters testify to the effectiveness of this dynamic and open-minded philosophy which has enriched modern chess. Those who enjoyed Secrets of Modern Chess Strategy will welcome the clarification of important concepts. Chess Strategy in Action can also be read on its own as an outstanding collection of modern games with thoughtful and enlightening annotations.

Chess: Sergei Tiviakov Sicilian Defense With 2 c3 ? Alapin Variation
WMV3 | İngilizce | 640 x 480 | 15.060 fps 415 kbps | WMA 96.0 kbps | 865 MB

I started playing the line 1.e4 c5 2.c3 in the Sicilian Defense as White in 1988. Since then I have employed it in more than 100 games, achieving a high performance score. My personal peak were the years 2005-2006, when I managed to win twelve 2.c3 games in a row.
Yet I also know the other side of the coin ? countless times I had to face this opening with Black when the opponent wanted to avoid my Dragon, for example during the World Candidates Match against Adams in New York in 1994. White tries to occupy the center with a second pawn, and Black must know his stuff very well in order to be able to equalize. And this is only possible with 2?Nf6 ? all other lines give the first player a small edge everywhere.
Especially against stronger opponents, 2.c3 is an excellent weapon. If White doesnt risk anything, he cannot lose! Controlling the game, he can always make a draw from a position of strength. In contrast, playing for a win with Black is always connected with extremely high risk, and we have seen many games when much higher rated players were completely smashed by White. In comparison with the main lines of the Sicilian, there is much less theory to study ? and yet a lot of room for improvement for both sides.

The pawns are the soul of chess! And he put his money where his mouth was! The famous chessplayer and composer Andre Danican Philidor not only focused the attention of coming generations on the importance of pawns in the game of chess, he also worked out the basis of a new opening in which Black from the very first moves is trying to construct a solid pawn setup in the centre. It is an opening underpinned by his deep philosophy.
Nowadays the Philidor Defence is mostly played via the Pirc move order 1.e4 d6 2.d4 Nf6 3.Nc3 e5. Black is not afraid of the endgame after 4.dxe5. This is proved by the recommendations given in the DVD as well as by the serious amount of high level games played with the line. The author presents a full opening repertoire against 1.e4 covering also all possible side lines such as 3.Bd3, 3.f3 etc. In the main line he gives the reader the possibility to choose his own favourite plan according his tastes. In modern chess full of information, games and analysis it is important to have new ideas and fresh openings. The Philidor Defence DVD provides you with exactly that!

Winning Chess Combinations

Winning Chess Combinations
Winning Chess Combinations
Everyman Chess; 1st edition | June 1, 2006 | ISBN-10: 1857444205 | 256 pages | PDF | 9.27 Mb

Combinations are the central element in chess; they make the game so magical and captivating. The beautiful point of sacrificing a queen, the strongest piece, in order to checkmate with a lowly pawn brings a smile of joy to all chess lovers. Virtually all chess games possess a combination, either one hidden in the shadows of analysis carefully avoided or one that provides a decisive blow.

Winning Chess Combinations is a unique work that doesn't merely repeat the wonderfully rich and vast numbers of combinations, asking readers to solve a particular diagrammed position; it is a work that is far more realistic. A combination involves a sacrifice upsetting the balance of forces, but will it work or tragically boomerang? The reader is invited to solve this critical question by identifying the advantages that a specific position holds which might make the combination successful.
